Expensify – Expensify.org is going to temporarily redirect all of its charitable funds to Expensify.org/hunger. With its ability to reimburse volunteers directly in real-time, Expensify.org is uniquely positioned to help families in need immediately. Until today, this fund was focused on paying off kids’ “lunch debts”, but with schools closed around the nation, that isn’t the top priority. Instead, Expensify.org is devoting everything to a new program: matching SNAP grocery purchases up to $50 per family.
NYC – Starting from 4/1 adults will be able to get 3 free meals too! Text ‘FOOD’ or ‘COMIDA’ to 877-877 to find a location near you.
NYC Department of Social Services – 

  • Any New Yorker can receive three free meals a day at one of more than 400 Meal Hubs across the city. Find out more information here.
  • The City has created the GetFoodNYC food delivery program to provide food for coronavirus (COVID-19)-vulnerable and food-insecure New Yorkers not currently served through existing food delivery programs. Find out more information here.

Zero to Three – Video chatting with apps such as FaceTime and Skype is a great way for young children to stay in touch with long-distance family and friends. Use these five tips to help children build relationships, communicate and learn from loved ones on the screen.
 NYC DOE – Across all five boroughs starting March 23, about 100 regional enrichment centers will open, running from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each will have three hot meals a day, plus a nurse, a socialworker, and a guidance counselor. Hebrew Free Loan Society – The Hebrew Free Loan Society Coronavirus Financial Impact Loan Program provides interest-free loans of $2,000-$5,000 to residents of New York City’s five boroughs, Westchester, or Long Island who are facing financial challenges caused by the Coronavirus outbreak. SBA – SBA to Provide Disaster Assistance Loans for Small Businesses Impacted by Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Canary – Canary distributes emergency cash grants (which do not need to be repaid) to individuals in moments of financial hardship. Canary is deploying their solution with employers, in order to manage emergency grant funds provided by employers for employees. The platform could be a useful part of a COVID-19 response, helping other organizations to manage existing cash grants that they would like to make to individuals. Please reach out to Kimberly Gartner at kimberly@workwithcanary.com if you’d like to discuss how Canary can help you distribute emergency cash to your community members.
