COVID-19
In response to the devastating and ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have reactivated the Robin Hood Relief Fund to help provide stability to the communities that Robin Hood has been dedicated to serving for more than 30 years. We know from our experience responding to 9/11 and Superstorm Sandy that emergencies disproportionally harm historically disadvantaged communities, thereby exacerbating the systemic challenges that low-income New Yorkers already face daily.
9/11
In the days following 9/11, we created a relief fund focused on assisting the families of those killed, first responders, and low-income New Yorkers who were directly impacted. In October, just five weeks after the attacks, we held the Concert for New York, which was one of the most successful fund-raising concerts in history. Ultimately, the Relief Fund provided $65 million to those suffering from that painful day.
Hurricane Sandy
Since Hurricane Sandy devastated our city and the surrounding areas, we have allocated nearly $82 million to relief efforts, making us the second-largest Sandy-related charity in the country, after the American Red Cross. In 2016, we allocated $6 million to assist families still trying to recover from the storm through rental assistance, legal aid, and other critical services for those whose homes – and lives – have yet to be rebuilt.
