Hello! My name is Ashley Oviedo, and I’m a rising senior at American University who was born and raised in the Bronx. Robin Hood has been a part of my life since the end of 2006, when my mom started working here in the accounting department.

Here are a few of my favorite Robin Hood memories:
- My very first concert was a Robin Hood event starring the Jonas Brothers. I was 13 at the time, and I was super-excited.
- In the summer of 2015, I was chosen to be a part of the Robin Hood Internship Program, which brings college students together for five weeks to learn about how Robin Hood and their partners are fighting poverty. I learned so much, but my most vivid memories are the weekly presentations when we shared our ideas with Robin Hood staff. Those presentations helped me conquer my fear of presenting in front of huge crowds, which is good because I’m a broadcast journalism major!

- In 2016, I was asked to come back as a Donor Data and Analytics Intern, a role I also filled this summer. My job was to update donor information into databases such as Salesforce and LexisNexis. I am very grateful for the chance to learn LexisNexis, which is a great tool for journalists.
Robin Hood’s unique approach to fighting poverty is very meaningful to me. Both of my parents were raised in low-income households and didn’t have half of the opportunities I have today. I was privileged to grow up comfortable, but it hurts me to know that so many people, especially in my borough, aren’t getting what they need. Robin Hood knows that poverty isn’t a choice, and they are fighting to lift up all of our neighbors in need.
