The average New Yorker who finishes a Robin Hood job-training program in the technology arena and secures work nearly triples his or her current savings.
THE CHALLENGE
On any given day, approximately 300,000 New Yorkers look for work. Long-term unemployment— being out of a job for more than 27 weeks — remains a persistent problem in New York City. Currently, only 11% of the long-term unemployed are able to find full-time work again. We have to do better.
OUR APPROACH
Robin Hood funds front-line organizations that provide three types of employment assistance: job placement, industry-specific training and training for starting entrepreneurship. The majority of our employment-focused grants go toward programs that support key sectors such as technology, construction & maintenance and health care. These industries offer the greatest opportunities for high wages and a promising career path.
THE IMPACT
Approximately two-thirds of participants who complete Robin Hood-funded training and placement programs are able to find work within six months. In addition to higher salaries and gainful employment, these jobs also offer vital benefits such as health insurance and paid vacation.
